In the contemporary epoch, the posture of people is getting ruined due to many reasons. The major one being the ever-increasing sedentary lifestyle of humans. Individuals nowadays do not indulge in physical activity or yoga. They just sit in one place for a long time. In fact, people also have wrong sitting posture which affects their spine.

Our spine is a combination of both vertebrae and discs, which support our body and help to keep it straight. An individual is able to stand straight just because of their spine. However, there could be a spinal deformity that ruins the whole body posture. This can be due to various reasons like old age. In old age, this thing happens naturally as people need support at that time to stand straight; second is a birth defect. If the child has a defect from birth, they are likely to face this problem in future. The third reason is trauma.

When there is a deformity in the spine, it becomes daunting for a person to move properly. A person faces difficulty in performing basic functions of the body, and ultimately, they prefer to go for surgery. If you also witness the same problem, go for the same treatment, as a lot of spine surgeries in Ludhiana are done to solve this issue.

Spinal deformities:

  • Lordosis: Under this, the lower back of your body goes too inward.
  • Kyphosis: Under this, the upper portion of the back seems to be bending forward.
  • Scoliosis: This is the condition under which if a person watches an X-ray of another, the spine seems to be towards the right or left, not straight.
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis: Under this condition, the spine becomes rigid, no flexibility is left. As a result, a person finds it to be a cumbersome task to do the movement of legs, arms, hips and other parts.

Symptoms of spinal deformity:

  • Facing difficulty in walking or even in standing straight.
  • If a person starts to observe that the upper part of the back is outward or the lower part is inward.
  • Sometimes, the person also experiences pain in the lower or upper part of the back.
  • If the head of the person is non-concentric with the body.
  • The way arms hang tells the deformity.

Diagnoses:

If a person is suffering from such a problem, then firstly the doctor will ask the specialist to do X-rays to get a clear picture of where the deformity is. A person could even be asked to do certain body movements. If there is any fracture or erosion, this could be determined by X-rays.

For a more in-depth view, some also prefer MR imaging, which gives a complete picture of the spine, including tissues.

CT scan is also used to get a clear picture of the spine along with tissues, but a computer is attached to it. All these techniques are used widely by spine doctors in Punjab to diagnose spine related issues.

Structure of spine:

Cervical spine: The spine in the neck portion is known as the Cervical spine, it helps to give support to the head.

Thoracic spine: The spine in the upper area of the back is known as the Thoracic spine. It is connected with the rib cage and helps to protect the heart, the main organ of the body.

Lumbar spine: The spine in the lower part of the back is called Lumbar spine. The functioning and movement of the whole body depend on it.

Sacral region: The bottom-most part of the spine is known as the Sacral region.

Conventional ways of treating spinal problems:

Medication: In order to get relief from pain in the back, certain medicines are prescribed by the specialist. Some also help to lessen the irritation and swelling.

Physical therapy: This is the most effective way to treat spine-related problems as physical therapies help to strengthen the muscles, which results in making the bones a bit flexible.

Changes in lifestyle: By introducing certain changes in lifestyle, like including activities that encourage the movement of body parts.

Another way of eliminating such issues: Surgery

Surgery should be done only if:

  • The curve of the spine affects the organs of the body. In that case, immediate action needs to be taken.
  • Even after trying ample treatments, if the person does not get relief from pain, then surgery should be opted for.
  • The curve of the spine is increasing, which could have a detrimental impact in the future.

If the issue is big enough, only then go for surgery, otherwise traditional ways of curing are the best. For that, a lot of hospitals are there where spine surgery is done in Ludhiana with utmost care, as any kind of negligence could have adverse effects on the whole body.

Conclusion: Encountering the problem of Lordosis, Kyphosis, Scoliosis or Ankylosing Spondylitis can be a troubling event. One needs to seek the advice of a spine doctor in Punjab to have a comfortable life ahead where you have the liberty to move freely. If the problem is mild, you can also go with the home remedies.
